
Gas & Vapour EX01 - 04
The underpinning knowledge and practical assessment programme is provided for personnel who undertake the physical installation and assembly of 'Ex' equipment and, who perform preventive maintenance and inspections on installed equipment.
Training

Understanding of the general principles of explosion protection and the principles of hazardous areas.

Understanding of the general principles of types of protection, standards, directives, certification and markings.

Understanding of those aspects of equipment design Ex d, Ex e, Ex n, Ex p and Intrinsic safety.

Understanding of relevant parts of IEC/EN 60079-14.
-
General understanding of inspection and maintenance requirements of IEC/EN 60079-17.
-
Familiarity with the particular techniques to be employed in the selection and erection of equipment referred to in IEC/EN 60079-14.
-
Understanding of the additional importance of permit to work systems and safe isolation in relation to explosion protection.

Hands on training of the practical skills necessary for the preparation and installation of relevant concepts of protection.
Assessment
There are four practical assessments
These involve the installation of Ex d, e & n equipment such as light fittings, junction/terminal boxes, switches and zener/galvanic barriers to be installed on to a panel using steel wire armour SWA and braided SY cable. Therefore cable glanding will play a significant part in these assessments. (See Video section)
A final exam is performed on a computer and consists of 60 multiple choice questions. Online exam
